Service and Theatre Management Careers
A successful service career from a boy in 1963 to retirement in 1987. His group The Rhythmn Runners (yes, mis-spelt on the bass drum!) was discovered by Decca Records in 1966 but it didn't quite work out as planned, see this blog All In One Day.
A second career starting at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) in April 1991 as an Ops Manager, then becoming Theatre Manager for Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre in 1992. Retired in the Summer of 2011.
Songwriting, Arranging and Production
Started writing songs while playing in groups and bands but became most involved from the early 90's. Main instrument is guitar but also plays keyboard for studio work. I am unable, or maybe haven't really tried enough, to read music. All recording and production is carried out in a home studio using high quality hardware, software and instrumentation. Projects include the production of my own tracks and also songs for other artists via internet collaboration, latterly mainly with my publisher Cat Barnard, who writes and performs. Collaboration can be providing a melody and demo track for another writer's lyrics, providing a vocal or composing a full musical arrangement from another singer songwriter's scratch piano or guitar track.
First serious breakthrough came when Joe Brown took two songs on a Nashville session. This has been overshadowed (no pun intended) by being invited to submit a song to commemorate Sir Cliff Richard's Diamond Jubilee in showbiz, 1958 - 2018, see below.
Main Successes include:
Being invited by the Guild Of International Songwriters and Composers, as one of only three songwriters, to submit a song to be presented to Sir Cliff Richard at the Royal Albert Hall, London in October 2018. To be custom written to reflect that this was Sir Cliff's Diamond Jubilee in showbiz, 1958 - 2018, and to be based on the "Diamond" theme. The selected song was to be professionally recorded and presented to Sir Cliff by his fan club. My submission was "Like A Diamond". It seems the selection process was protracted because all three songs were deemed to be contenders but it wasn't my day and the selected song (by one point) was a very worthy pop ballad "Diamond" by Paul Whitfield.

Concert Performances - Pavilion Theatre Bournemouth
Performed to audiences ranging from c.450 to c.850 at Pavilion Christmas Concert most years from 2000 to 2014. At Christmas Time was a particular hit in 2011 and Dance Hall Of Dreams (written especially for the occasion) brought the house down in 2014 - and sold out CD stocks afterwards!
Successfully collaborated with other singer/songwriters via the internet.
Emma Jane (Scotland) kindly agreed to take time out of her own young career to sing Love Is In The Things I Do. After some three years it is still in the Broadjam charts and is Bob's most played song.
Julia Schmidt (New Jersey, USA) joined Bob in a wonderful duet We Can Be Lovers Again, a track which stayed in the Broadjam Country Traditional chart for almost a year. Bob has arranged and produced several of Julia's songs and has more in the pipeline.
Collaborating with successful singer/songwriter and music business owner Cat Barnard/CC Lamondt (South Africa). Starting with I Put Your Picture Away, which may yet appear on an album of duets, using Bob's music and Cat's lyrics, some fine songs have emerged, several being shortlisted for CC Lamondt's next album.
Bob has recently provided the vocal track for a UK producer and additional musical and vocal backing for a US singer/songwriter.
Towards the end of 2017 Out Of The Equation was selected to be mixed and produced by professional B3D Recording Studios in NYC, USA - further confirmation of the quality of composition and musicianship.
Bob was initially signed to a US Publishing company linked to Mathew Knowle's (Beyonce's father) record label but is proud to have joined the Lamondt International & Ngong Hills Publishing family based in S. Africa with offices worldwide where all of his songs and music have been published since 2017.
